Key findings

  • 2,451 posts, 132 films, 42.70 crore views. The median post recorded 87,497 views; the strongest tenth passed 3,00,186.
  • August 2026 was the biggest month: 616 posts published that month hold 12.85 crore views, 30.1% of the period's total.
  • Attention concentrated. Toxic (network coverage) holds 54.5% of recorded views; the five leading films together hold 77.8%.
  • Most of a released film's record sits on run-up posts. For the 18 Kannada films released in this period with at least 10 measured posts, a median 74% of each film's recorded views sit on posts published before release day; in 15 of 18 it is more than half. The release week (release day and the six days after) holds a median 20%. The exception is Premada Oorali (client campaign): under 1% before release and 68% in its release week.
  • The typical carousel beat the typical reel: median 1,02,983 views against 83,772 for a reel, while reels carry 74% of all recorded views.
  • Period & historical posts had the highest median of the genre families with at least 30 posts (1,07,991 views; 82% of those posts are about Toxic), and mystery & suspense the lowest (37,708).

These are descriptions of one network's posts. They do not measure box office, ticket sales or unique people, and they do not show that posting earlier or in a given format causes a result. Limits · Download the data (CSV)

Month by month

Unique measured posts about Kannada films, grouped by the month they were published (IST). Views are lifetime readings at the snapshot, so a month's figure is not views watched in that month. October 2026 runs to 26 October 2026 and its posts are the youngest.

A post about two films counts once in a month's posts and views, and once under each film in the "Films" column.

Which films drew the views

Ranked by recorded views on posts published in the period. Each film's row uses its own dashboard's post list; the share is of the period's total of 42.70 crore. Ranking and shares use views, the measure used throughout this study; a film's own dashboard may headline accounts reached instead.

The ten Kannada films with the most recorded views on posts published 1 January 2026 to 26 October 2026. “Client campaign” marks our client collaborations; “Network coverage” is our pages' own coverage of a film.

A film with many posts can lead on total views with an ordinary median, and a film with a few posts can have a high median. Read the two columns together. Client collaborations are explained on the case studies.

Before and after release day

For each Kannada film released between 1 January 2026 and 26 October 2026 with a known release day, at least 10 measured posts and posts that began on or before release day, this splits the film's recorded views by when each post was published: before release day, in the release week (release day and the six days after), or later. All of the film's posts count, including any published in 2025.

Post publication dates relative to release day; not contract or campaign dates. Shares are of the film's recorded views on measured posts; estimated partner posts are excluded. Films marked † were released less than 30 days before the data snapshot, so their later share is still growing.

Median across these 18 films: 74% before release and 20% in the release week. A high “before” share means the film's most-viewed posts went up during the run-up; it is not a measure of the audience reached before release, because views accumulate after a post goes up and are not timestamped. A film the audience discovered after release shows up as a large “later” share.

Formats

Unique measured posts published 1 January 2026 to 26 October 2026, by format. Medians and percentiles use linear interpolation (R-7).

Medians describe the typical post; a few very large posts move a share of views without moving a median. The format benchmark over a longer sample, from July 2024, is on film post-format benchmarks. Format differences here are descriptive: posts differ in age, creative and film.

Genres

Genre families from each film's Kannada genre tag; a film can be in several, and a post counts once in each family of its film. Families with fewer than 30 posts in the period are left out.

Where one film supplies most of a family's posts, the family's median mostly describes that film; the last column shows it. Per-campaign genre medians, over all years, are on genre benchmarks.

Methodology and limits

  1. Scope. The 572 movie dashboards for Kannada-language films (Kannada and Kannada bilingual, from each film's language tag). Talent PR, brand work and other-language films are outside it; in the same period our pages also published 450 measured posts about 23 films in other languages, covered in other-language films on Kannada pages.
  2. Posts. Each dashboard's data.csv lists its posts. Instagram shortcodes deduplicate them, so a crossover post counts once in pooled figures. Rows marked Estimated are excluded. 2 listed posts in the period had no numeric views record and are treated as unmeasured, not as zero.
  3. Views. Post-level views from the Meta Graph API, as committed to the site's insights record. They are lifetime readings, grouped by the day a post was published (IST), not by when anyone watched. Views count repeat viewing and are not unique people. Older posts have had longer to accumulate views than newer ones.
  4. Release days come from the film catalog behind the film pages and are used only when the day is known.
  5. Two kinds of record. The archive mixes our client collaborations with our network's own coverage of films. A post about a film is not evidence that its producers worked with us; each row says which kind it is.
  6. What this cannot show. Paid versus organic distribution, unique audiences, ticket sales, box office or cause and effect. It is one network's posts, not all Kannada film activity on Instagram.

The full measurement rules, including how missing and estimated records are handled, are on campaign measurement coverage and limits. Source snapshot commit date: 2026-10-26. This dates a stored-data change, not when the individual metrics were measured. Figures are recalculated whenever the site builds, so they can rise after first publication; quote them with their “as of” date.
